Funny you should ask, as I just very recently completed a full survey of the Model 1893. According to the factory ledger records, there were 34,176 Model 1893 shotguns manufactured. Of the number, 645 (1.9%) were Riot Guns. There are three of them out there that are real rare, as they were equipped with saddle rings.

There is no "about" at all, the exact number of Model 1893 Riot Guns made was 645.

In regards to the published information about the "recalled and destroyed" Model 1893s, that is for the most part an urban myth. Winchester never issued a "recall". They did publicly offer to replace a Model 1893 with a new Model 1897 if the owner so desired.

During my recent survey of the Model 1893 ledger records, I found that there were precisely 2,224 (6.5%) of them recorded as being returned and replaced with a Model 1897. The vast majority of the Model 1893 shotguns were not turned in.

Over the past several years, I have surveyed several hundred surviving guns and recorded them in my research survey. What is the serial number on your Riot Gun?

Your Model 1893 Riot Gun was number 3 of 10 that were all shipped on November 23rd, 1893 on work order # 4841. There is no information as to where they were shipped or who bought them.
